FLIS/TIR Database
The Federal Logistics
Information System (FLIS)/Technical Item Record (TIR) database
is the HAYSTACK Federal Supply Catalog and default database. It is comprised
of the FLIS/MCRL (Master Cross Reference List 1, 2, & 3) and provides
a cross-referenced list of National Stock Numbers, manufacturers' part
numbers, and CAGE codes supplemented with related data, including an alternate
parts breakdown list. Information is available for more than 12 million
items purchased within the Federal Supply System. The FLIS also includes
the ML-C (Management List-Consolidated), which provides pricing, stocking,
and procurement information on all National Stock Numbers within the Federal
Supply System.
You can also view many drawings of parts by clicking
a value under the INC heading in the FLIS Header (Segment A). See FLIS/TIR Search
and Drawings in the FLIS Database.
You can perform a multi-item search by placing a semi-colon
(;) between keywords, NIIN numbers, or any of the other FLIS search fields.
Note:
A
new link has been added to the FLIS Details/Summary page for QPD.
(For a sample search, see the FLIS/TIR Results topic.) This link takes
you to the QPD Database search page. See Other Databases and then the
QPD Database topic under Database Menu in the help Table of Contents.)
The fields on the FLIS basic search screen include
- Part
Number - The Part Number varies from the NSN/NIIN number as it
is the part number assigned by the manufacturer. For more detail, see
the Part Number topic.
- Similar-
The Similar check box provides result records that have Part Numbers similar in nature to the requested Part Number reflecting number/letter transposition searching. Examples include: Zeros and the letter 'O', Fives and the letter 'S', Ones and the letter 'I' (caps i) and the letter 'l' (small ell).
- NSN/NIIN
- The NSN/NIIN is a combination of the NSN (a 13-digit number assigned
to a part under the Federal Cataloging Program) and the NIIN (National
Item Identification Number). For more detail, see the NSN/NIIN topic.
- Item
Name - The Item Name is the approved name of the item as established
by the Federal Cataloging Program. The length of an item's name is restricted
to its first 19 characters. For more detail, see the Item Name topic.
- Similar-
The Similar check box provides result records that have Item Names similar
in nature to the requested Item Name.
- CAGE
- The CAGE (Commercial and Government Entity) data provides listings of
firms that manufacture or distribute items procured by the U.S. Government.
The CAGE is the company code. It is also known as the Federal Supply Code
for Manufacturers (FSCM). For more detail, see the CAGE topic.
- Associated
- The Associated check box is used in conjunction with the CAGE code.
When selected, a search retrieves results on the CAGE number you entered
plus associated CAGE codes, such as a parent or support company.
- Vendor
Name - The Vendor Name is the company/division that manufactures
and/or sells the part.
- FSC
- The Federal Supply Code (FSC) is a four-digit code assigned to all standardization
documents. For more detail, see the FSC topic.
- INC
- The Item Name Code (INC) is a five-digit number assigned by the Defense
Logistics Service (DLS), which identifies each name in the NATO Codification
System.
Additional fields on the Advanced Search screen include
- RNCC- The Reference Number Category Code
specifies the relationship of the part number to the Item of Supply. The
codes and their definitions are derived from the Department of Defense
DIDS Manual.
- RNVC
- The Reference Number Variation Code
indicates whether the cited Reference Number is, or is not, item identifying
or if it is for information only. The codes and their definitions are
derived from the Department of Defense DIDS Manual.
- Weapon/System
- The Weapon System Code is a combination of End Item Codes from the FLIS
Segment "H" and the Weapon System Code files. For more detail,
see the Weapon/System topic.
- PID
Keyword - Product Item Description
(PID) keywords search an assortment of technical characteristic information
as well as additional approved manufacturers/part numbers, drawing numbers,
and military specification references. Over 4 million NIINs in the FLIS
database have PID information associated with their records. The sources
for this descriptive information are the four hardware DLA centers: Defense
Supply Center Richmond (DSCR), Defense Supply Center Columbus – Construction
(DSCC-C), Defense Supply Center Columbus – Electronic (DSCC-E) and Defense
Industrial Supply Center (DISC).
- PID
Specifications - Product Item Description Specifications (see PID
Keyword above).
- SOS
- The Source of Supply (SOS) codes identify a specific supply and distribution
organization or requisition processing point in relation to its Routing
Identifier Code (RIC), Military Service or Government ownership, and location,
as well as the cataloging Activity Code (AC) when applicable. The field
is reflected in 3 parts of the record, for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
- AAC
- The Acquisition Advice Code
indicates how (as distinguished from where), and under what restrictions,
an item is acquired. Use the pull-down menu to select an AAC code.
- Navy
COG - The Cognizance symbol
is a two-position prefix used by the Navy to provide supply management
information. The first position is a single-number code that identifies
the storage account. The second position is single-letter code that identifies
the inventory control point (ICP) that has control of the material. The
inventory managers may be Navy or Defense activities.
- Navy
SMIC - The Special Material Identification
Codes are used to indicate unique applications, reporting segments,
specialized distribution, etc., for logistics management purposes. Codes
must be authorized by NAVSUP.
- Army
AMCC - The Army Management Control
Code is used for Army-managed items. Positions 4 and 5, together
of the Management Control Code for the Department of Army items, identify
a specific weapons system/end item or homogeneous group of items.
- Air
Force MMAC - The Air Force (AF) Material
Management Aggregation Code searches positions 4 and 5 of the Air
force Material Management Aggregation Control Code field. Positions 4
and 5 designate the AF MMAC. This two-digit code identifies specific items
(NSNs) to be managed by a specific manager. These codes apply to systems,
program, selected Federal Supply Class, and Aggregation to related equipment.
- Technical
Characteristics Free-form Search - You can enter four different sets
of criteria that are applicable to the item you are looking for, which
can include various functional, electrical, and physical characteristics,
manufacturer's data, special notations, or narrative descriptions that
uniquely identify equipment and components. Technical Characteristics
provide detailed item descriptions, including information such as materials,
dimensions, colors, conditions, end item identification and performance
characteristics of supply parts. You can enter an item in the Item Name
field and add technical characteristics criteria to further delineate
your search, and then click Search.
Additionally, the Technical Characteristics Freeform search allows
you to enter terms you find in Drill-Down search results into the Criteria
fields of a Technical Characteristics search so you can search further
on the terms. Use the words you find in the Requirements or Reply results
fields of a Drill-Down Search as guides to phrasing a new search criteria
characteristic. It is helpful to remember that characteristics should
be separated into the criteria fields. For example, you can put the name
of an item, z
clamp, in the Criteria 1 field, the kind of material for
the item, stainless stee
in the Criteria 2 field, and the size, 1.25,
in the Criteria 3 field, as a way of separating characteristics, and then
click Search.
- Drill-Down
- Use the search feature to "drill-down" through the list of
Technical Characteristics for the item you are searching and add those
characteristics to your search.
- Group
Items by NSN - Click on this option if you do not want to see parts
listed for every NSN in your search result list.
- Results
Limit - Use this option to set the number of hits you want returned
with every search you perform.
For a sample search, see the FLIS/TIR Search topic.
