Next Higher Assembly

The Next Higher Assembly database is a link to a list of NSNs in which a NIINClosedNational Item Identification Number - nine-digit number assigned to a part under the Federal Cataloging Program. It is the last nine digits of the National Stock Number. or item is found and is generally associated with assembly kits and includes data such as that from the Army Technical Manuals.

Example

  1. In the FLISClosedFederal Logistics Information System - the Haystack APL Federal Supply Catalog comprised of the FLIS (Parts 1, 2, 3); the Management List - Consolidated (ML-C); the Federal Supply Classifications Handbooks (H-2); the Federal Item Name Directory (H-6); the Commercial Activity Government Entity Handbook (CAGE); the Characteristics Data (V-Segment); the Interchangeability / Substitutability Data; and the Major Organizational Entity Rules (MOE) databases. database, type 01-056-8967 in the NIIN field and click Search.
  2. Click More Databases to expand the list of databases in which the NIIN can be found.
  3. Click the Next Higher Assembly database.
    This NIIN is found in one other assembly kit, a hydraulic accumulator.
  4. If you click this NIIN, you then access a part number record from the MCRLClosedMaster Cross-Reference List - cross-reference information from reference numbers to NSNs. panel. For example, part number 16VH0052.
  5. A Super Search window opens, enabling you to perform a multi-database search for the part or the NIIN.
  6. In our example, leave the part number field blank and type the NIIN (01-056-8967) in the NIIN field, and then click Search.
    The NIIN is found in seven different databases, including the Found In database which listed our hydraulic accumulator assembly.
  7. To do a multi-database search for the part number, click Back to return to the Multi-database, or Super Search, window and type 16VH0052 in the part number field and leave the NIIN field blank.
  8. Leave all of the database check boxes selected and click Search.
    The part number is found in the FLIS database and the Inventory/Capability database.
